Matt Couch

Matt Couch (Coach, CF USD)

Matt is a graduate of the University of San Diego, with a degree in Communications and a minor in

Leadership Studies. He played baseball (pitcher) for USD, was a 4 year starting pitcher and a three time

All-Conference pitcher. Was named an All-Star in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball Summer League

in 2007. Was also named Captain and Most Inspirational his final year at USD. Played one year of

professional baseball overseas in Sweden. His baseball career was cut short after having 2 major arm

surgeries to his throwing arm.

Matt has been actively weight training since high school. In college, he was lucky enough to be coached

by coaches Stephane Rochet and Casey Burgener and was introduced to CrossFit through them where they

implemented “ benchmark WOD’ s” along with strength training. At USD, he was one of the top weight

lifters on the baseball team and was named Athlete of the Month during his Senior Year.

After graduating and pursuing his baseball career he dabbled with CrossFit but never fully committed to

the program. He finally “ drank the Kool-Aid” and has been a full time CrossFitter and fire breather for

the past year. Matt is a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer and will be participating in the Olympic Certification and

going through the Coaches Prep Course in the upcoming weeks. He is also looking to compete in this years

CrossFit Games.
