What is CrossFit?

In a nutshell, CrossFit is a High Intensity workout in a Constantly Varied format which is comprised purely of Functional Movements.  These concepts can be elusive, especially coming from a typical gym environment where we are duped into believing that isolated bodybuilding movements coupled with 20 minutes on treadmill will make us "fit"... so let's break this down.

Functional Movement has become something of a buzzword recently.  Here's what it means to us.  These movements are Natural.  They rise as a result of being a human (you sit and stand, pick something up from the ground, push, pull, jump and run).  If a gym was never invented, these movements would remain, they are part of your DNA.  They are Essential to independent living and and to your quality of life.  Sadly, nursing homes are filled with people who have lost the capacity to do these things on their own.  There are a shortage of t hese movements in the Globo Gym environment of today.  But when you think about it, it makes sense.  Have you ever bicep curled your kids or hamstring extended your groceries onto the shelf?

Intensity is a touchy subject and a hard one to tackle.  Intensity is measured differently in different communities. Intensity to us is how much power you output in any given workout.  This means performing the functional movements and moving with a purpose.  Without geeking out too much on numbers, we mean that you can create a great deal of energy (literally horsepower) by getting more work done in less time, or doing more work in a fixed amount of time.  All fitness based goals can be attained faster by upping your intensity.  That being said, intensity is different for every individual and our workouts can easily be scaled to meet the needs of anyone, so don't be intimidated.  The workouts differ in degree, not kind, elite athletes and our grandparents both need these movements but the dosage will be drastically different.

Constant Variety means that you will be subjected to different challenges and stimulation every time that you walk through our doors.  Training like this not only ensures you a fitness that is broad and all-encompassing (not limited to one or two disciplines) but it also means that you will never get bored.  You will be constantly challenged to try new things, engage in new sports and adapt to new stimulus.  You will never waste time in the gym thinking of what routine you should do... it's all done for you!

This combination creates a fitness level that casts a huge net.  We want our athletes to be prepared for any challenge that life throws at them, bar none!
